The Inoculation Project: Math & Science in Red State Schools
Solid science education is the best inoculation against ignorance.
The objective of this weekly project is to combat the anti-science push in conservative America by providing direct funding each week to math and science projects in red state classrooms.
Fortunately, a conduit organization for achieving this direct funding already exists: DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org allows you to make direct contributions to specific classroom projects (all vetted), resulting in tremendous and immediate impacts from small dollar donations.
Each week we focus on funding a single small-dollar project in a traditionally red state classroom. These are projects whose funding requests are expiring within the next week. If the projects are not funded by their expiration date, they die.
This week, we're elevating our last Bonus Project to Main Project status. This is a more expensive project than we usually tackle, but we also have two weeks to get it done.

Teacher's Comments:
My Students
We want nature at our fingertips! Help us view the life cycle of a Painted Lady Butterfly step by step! We want to be able to carry the life cycle home in pictures to show our parents what really happens to a Painted Lady Butterfly!
Our classroom is made up of very eager and smart students. Most of my students come from a very poor home life. Our school population is 95 percent free/reduced lunch. The students in my classroom are enthusiastic about learning, but have little to no opportunity to find out the importance of science outside the school setting.
My Project
I am requesting these resources as a way of showing the life cycle of a butterfly day by day. My students will take pictures every day and compare pictures to see the changes over time. My students need these resources because they do not see this anywhere else but in a textbook. My students deserve hands on resources.
My students need these resources to broaden their understanding of life cycles. They will be able to benefit from this by seeing a picture of every day of the process. Then, each student will receive a picture of their own to take home. I want my students to have a hands on view of nature and the world around them.
Please consider rescuing this project by making a small donation to it. Small dollars make a big difference.

Good News
Last week, we took a break from our usual classroom project fundraising to direct some donations to ShelterBox's efforts in Japan. Many thanks to everyone who chipped in and helped spread the word.
As for our last classroom project, Makin' Math Fun!, it got rescued!
Here's what the teacher had to say:
I am so grateful that you helped support math in my classroom. I am so excited to see the improvements in my students learning thanks to these hands-on materials. The materials will let students practice math concepts and help cement the concepts for those students. Our school is in a low income area and these students will greatly benefit from your generous donation. I can use the materials year after year which means you have made a wonderful contribution to the education of many students. Thank you so very much for you help!
With gratitude,
Ms. F.
