Scroll down for this week's project. On tap this week: CSI: Classroom Science Investigation in Texas!
Reminder: Look for "The Inoculation Project" every Friday afternoon!
The Inoculation Project: Math & Science in Red State Schools
Solid science education is the best inoculation against ignorance.
The objective of this weekly project is to combat the anti-science push in conservative America by providing direct funding each week to math and science projects in red state classrooms.
Fortunately, a conduit organization for achieving this direct funding already exists: DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org allows you to make direct contributions to specific classroom projects (all vetted), resulting in tremendous and immediate impacts from small dollar donations.
Each week we focus on funding a single small-dollar project in a traditionally red state classroom. These are projects whose funding requests are expiring within the next week. If the projects are not funded by their expiration date, they die.

Teacher's Comments:
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to go on a science exploration? Our students want to explore the outdoors using individual kits that will enhance the exploration experience. We want to be able to supply each student with a zip lock baggie that includes the basic necessities.
Our 5th grade students are in Texas and they love exploring the outdoors and learning about the environment around them. These students have an imagination and love hands on learning for science. Most children come from a disadvantage background and we look forward to getting these items donated.
My Project
Our children will be able to step outside the classroom and use science to explore the world around them from leaves to insects to other creatures. They will be able to collect items and learn about them and journal about them as a group in the classroom. We envision this helping them have a respect for the environment around them.
This project will enhance the hands on learning experience that our children thrive for and as a result they will become self sufficient that everything outdoors has a purpose and share with other students the purpose of each insect, leaf and soil.
Please consider rescuing this project by making a small donation to it. Small dollars make a big difference.

Good News
Last week's project, Motivate to Cultivate, got rescued!
Here's what the teacher had to say:
The tools that you have funded will enable students to create and explain their own concepts with concrete tools. They will also be able to use the visuals as a means of reflecting and making sure they are using the skills being taught in school by ways of the scientific method and motivational aspects. In addition, the resources will help them to continue to be motivated in doing a greater job on their interactive student notebook as well as using the index cards as a means of creating study note cards to prepared for notes and projects.
We try to build character at our school via PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System). Hanging the character posters will only increase the best character and motivation in our students. The more students are motivated be harder they will try to complete and do better on tasks in the classroom. Students like to see that teachers care by having things hanging in the classrooms and hallway to show them that are important and can do better. My students have express how they love to see how teachers try so hard to motivate them to do better.
I hope to share with my colleagues and the students of the school how motivation only help cultivate students to the best they can be in society. Giving them the tools and resources in the classroom and in the hallways can only help boost learning and increase self-esteem in our children. Thank you so much. I can't wait to introduce these tools to the children. You don't know how much these items will mean to me and my students.
We also gave a bit of a boost to the bonus project, Saving a Life at Mc Nair:
Thank you so much for making our goal a reality. I cannot wait to use the books to help educate our campus on the life saving skills that they can use to save a life. We will be able to pass on the knowledge to others on our campus and more importantly to our community. The Pre Med club is ready to go out into the community and share what they will learn from the workbooks and DVD's. Thank you so much for being our life line before the project expired. We already have a booth reserved at our spring festival that will have an information board with the skills from the workbooks and DVD.
